Australia may have won the first test of the series but surely the message sent from their opponent sis clear. Pakistan will not go down easily, their fight back in the opening game and almost getting it through has shaken Australia and the face expressions from the Aussies were a proof of that.
Australia media praised the fight Pakistan put in the second innings. Chasing 490 runs in the final innings Pakistan list the game by just 39 runs. There was a lot to talk about for the media from this second innings from Pakistan. Each player had his story.
There were a lot of ups and down for Pakistan in the test match. At the end if we look at it then they just had a few bad moments in the second innings that cost them the game. Even when they were left with 108 more runs to get with two wickets in hand on day 5, they were looking as if they will get it. The reason is that Pakistan batted absolutely brilliantly in the last innings. Their batting over shadowed all the brilliance of the Australian batters in the first two innings. Smith scored a hundred din the first innings followed by a fifty in the second.
Then Starc had some good five days with the ball. But eventually it was Asad Shafiq’s hundred in the second innings which everyone was seen talking about. This innings almost changed the whole course of the game for Pakistan. It was one of those knocks which lifts the whole team.
Another major influence in the game was the batting heroics of the Pakistan tail. The bowlers did a great job. Mohammad Amir scored 48. He deserved a fifty for the way he batted and supported Asad Shafiq in the center. Also the way he replied back to Starc at the start. His fans must have like that one for sure.
Wahab Riaz smashed the ball well for his 30s. He was out in the final over for the day. Had Wahab entered into day 5 then there was a strong possibility that Pakistan would have finished the game in their favor. They were chasing 490 runs which is a massive total in the fourth innings. But Pakistan made 450 so one can see the narrowness between the two sores. There is no doubt that it was a great game of cricket. Gabba hit a record audience for this test match which shows that people were keen in watching Pakistan batting Australia.
